Accompanied by the spring sunshine, we started online learning. Since the start of our distance course, the students in Integrated Department commence their Mondays with a flag-raising ceremony and a themed class meeting. Centering on the theme of "gratitude education, rational thinking and a community of the shared future for mankind", we discussed the impact of the spread of the epidemic on human beings, along with a deep consideration of the appropriate attitude towards internet information. In this way, we exerted the power of moral education.
Which is prior, to acquire knowledge or to be a man with virtue ? This is a question that the novel coronavirus brings to our deepest souls. To some extent, the "virtue" of the Chinese is patriotism, while that of an individual is the pursuit of the true, the good and the beautiful. During the first class meeting , the homeroom teachers led the students to appreciate the heroes in harm's who have devoted themselves to medical science, seeking truth and loving people. Life tend not to be perfect or splendid without the edification of a virtue-oriented gratitude education.
In another case, the students were led to distinguish the rumors in the epidemic situation , in which the "Sun Yang" incident was a lead for a heated discussion upon the balance between law and public opinion, as well as an appropriate attitude towards the network events. The second class meeting finished with an agreed conclusion that full study and constant self-improvement will protect our life with knowledge; calmness and rationality help with maintaining a safe internet.
“Though separated by a mountain, we’ll share the same clouds and rain.”The bright moon belongs not only to a single town. Lands apart, feelings shared. The merciless epidemic brings Chinese people together, under which circumstance we deeply feel that the Chinese people share weal and woe, and that the fates of the different parts of the world is connected. The third class meeting will therefore reflect on "mutual assistance and integration" in a "community with a shared future for mankind", and discuss the positive and negative impact of the epidemic on the international community, as well as the role of Chinese citizens in it.
Winter will pass and spring follows, when each thing blooms. The epidemic is a great challenge to education; whereas from another perspective, it can be a stepping stone for students’ growth. Only by forming the world view with "virtue" as the priority, the information view with objectivity and rationality , and the view that mankind shares a common destiny, can we light up life with education, and can students benefit from education for the rest of their lives.
There are unfortunately rumors and even anti-chinese sentiments and ethnic discrimination. As is known, the history of mankind is actually the process of mankind's constant exploration of the world, the pursuit of truth, and the victory over ignorance. As Dante illustrates, ‘Man cannot live like beasts, should pursue knowledge and virtue.’ Hence, we may first and foremost not believe nor spread the rumors.
